How to Pack a Cowboy Hat for Travel

Short answer: Protect the hat from pressure and movement. A rigid hat box or a carry-on arrangement with space around the crown and brim is safer than compressing an embellished hat into a full suitcase.

Check the hat before packing

Look for delicate fringe, stones, sequins or raised decoration. Review any product-specific storage instructions and make sure the hat is clean and dry before travel.

Give the crown and brim room

1. Choose a container or space that does not bend the brim or press against the crown.
2. Keep hard objects and heavy clothing away from embellishments.
3. Limit movement without pushing filling against a fragile surface.

Do not fold or reshape a hat unless its product instructions expressly say that it is packable.

On arrival
